A brand new Mercedes-Benzes AGM GT 63S worth R3million (USD192,172.18) burst into flames in Long Street Capetown on Sunday, after the driver revved it a few times.
“Kindly be advised that Cape Town Central police are aware of the incident of the vehicle catching fire in Long Street on Sunday evening. No case docket has been registered in [relation] to the matter and it is not under investigation,” confirmed Western Cape SAPS spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut.
Mercedes Benz South Africa are aware of the incident but didn’t want to comment on the insurance proceedings for the vehicle.
The fire department was contacted at 00:04 and arrived on the scene at 00:47. There were no injuries but the car was severely damaged.
